What Is a Barbiturate?

A barbiturate is a type of sleeping pill that was popular decades ago; however, rarely are they prescribed today. (Mainly in cases where benzodiazepines aren’t working.) Barbituates are more dangerous than medications like benzodiazepines and hypnotics like Rozerem. Barbiturates have a lot more side effects and are also extremely addictive.

Examples of barbituates include Seconal, Amytal, Nembutal, and Tuinal.
