Who Gets Insomnia?

According to the National Institutes of Health, more than 70 million Americans complain of insomnia. A study conducted by German Researchers concluded that 20-30 percent of worldwide adults suffer from insomnia; though, it’s estimated that less than 50 percent will be diagnosed with it (mainly because they don’t discuss it with a doctor). And, that’s what makes measuring insomnia is difficult because many insomniacs choose to live with the problem rather than seek treatment or talk about it.

The estimates are that about 11 percent of Americans are suffering from insomnia at any given time; and, that anywhere from 30-50 percent of Americans have insomnia experiences over the year.

Many people don’t like to admit that they’ve lost control of their lives. Or, they don’t want to confront the problems which are contributing to their sleeplessness.

The same survey found that the main causes for these insomnia problems were health concerns and relationship troubles.

Men and women of all age groups suffer from insomnia; though, it appears to be a bit more common with women (particularly after menopause) and the old.
